Three of us trailered the Cuba Libre up to Port Hardy ( Thats in BC Howard! :p ) for three days of fishing and camping and imbibing .
The weather man was WRONG AGAIN!!! He predicted crappy winds and rain... he was wrong! Flat calm seas, not even any swells, made for easy travelling ( we were running 20-40 miles a day)
First two days we concentrated on bottomfish-- lingcod, halibut, snappers, and rockfish... Only fished salmon for about an hr and put one in the boat. But we did OK on "chicken:" halibut (less than 30 lbs) and other tasty white fish.
Third day we ran back to one of the old reliable sammie spots up the coast from Port Hardy.. BINGO! Easy two fish chinook limits for the three of us in less than 2 hrs. Size ranged from about 15 lbs to 25 lbs. Lost several more too. And we stayed away from the normal hotspots that had several boats working the area.
We still needed two more halibut to fill out our limits... so I cleaned tha salmon, and threw the guts in a bucket. We ran out about 7 miles and dropped a whole mess of salmon guts to the bottom in 300 ft. In no time flat we had our two butts.. biggest 45 lbs. Not a monster but a nice fish.
Here are some pics of the booty after we got back to my place
