that's a good site...
another animated knot site... http://www.marinews.com/knot_rigs.php?PHPSESSID=3e6b19f1a7c989cacd23d963a7 277547 click on 'FISHING KNOTS' at top.. then thru the drop downs...you can watch the animation in full or click on 'Learn the Steps' and go step by step for each knot...
your knot page didn't go to a link in your message... the 'www' in the last part had a space in it...

another link.. http://neilmackellow.sea-angler.org/knot1.html
here's a pretty decent article about braided and mono lines and knot testing from Sport Fishing Magazine last August... page three talks about knots ...and his tests on them... note his using a 12 turn bimini in braid and how stronger it was rather than a 20.. 30 .. 40 or more turn bimini that is usually the consensus
http://www.sportfishingmag.com/article.jsp?ID=43557
still my favorite that I always use for surf fishing or if no swivel is needed in other applications.. for its strength and ease of tying.. is Sosin's 'no-name knot' onto a bimini.. spider hitch or double surgeons loop ..Jack H showed a few of us how to tie it correctly back at one of the earlier GG mucks... great knot..thanx Jack.. (damn that was a long time ago )

Thanks for the new sites youse guys.I have tried braided a couple of times with not much luck. One backlash and I was out ten bucks:confused:

I've been using braid a long time...first started with the old Fusion Braid when it came out in the early 90's...it used to be packaged in aluminum foil like packs.. then switched on over to Fireline... been using it ever since...that's all I use on spinning... love it.. can't get me to use mono on light spinning but...make that ONLY for plugging in saltwater for specks... spaniards and blues and the like...and in the sweetwater for LMBass on light spinning gear .. I don't use spinning for bottom fishing or trolling.. hate them.. that's why God and Abu made casting reels
I first tried the 14# test in s/w.. not needed.. for salt plugging I use 10# Fireline.. for fresh either 6..8.. or 10#.... light spinning I'm talking about using the 2500 1500 or 1000 series or lower reels...I use Stradics.. after a while what you can do is respool or reverse that same line onto your spare spinning reel spool.. this way you get to use it twice....cuts the braid price in half
also.. put a one wrap piece of friction tape ( the sticky electrical tape) around the bottom of the spool and tie onto that.. this way the Fireline or whatever braid you're using won't slip on the spool.. some use a bottomshot of mono instead of the tape... but why have to tie another knot...
for me I've seen that Fireline( or most braid) will cast longer.. has little if any memory.. when in a strong wind.. close the bail manually not with the handle.. and cast more sidearm... less chance of wind knots.. I get one every now and then... but very very infrequently.. I think the benefits for me outweigh the occasional windknot..
tried braid one time a while back on an Abu 6500 conventinal reel fishing for flounder.. not for me...had it off by the next day...some use it to cast with out of the surf.. also not for moi... I still use either sufix or big game mono on the casting reels mainly for flounder and reds..

I've been using knots from http://www.powerpro.com/using/knots.asp for all my braided line applications.

PK,I used the braided on my baitcasting reel without much luck. You are the second person that told me to use it on my spinning reel.I will give it a try and let you know how I do.
Thanks,
Rusty
don't forget BEFORE spooling it on .. either spinning or baitcaster..

put a one wrap piece of friction tape ( the sticky electrical tape) around the bottom of the spool and tie onto that.. this way the Fireline or whatever braid you're using won't slip on the spool.. some use a bottomshot of mono instead of the tape... but why have to tie another knot.. if you don't the entire spooled braid will slide on the spool and you'll think your drag is slipping and screwed up..

you will outcast most people using mono with it on a 'smaller' size spinning reel like a 1000-2000-2500 .. even up to a 4000 series...good luck...:D
