Well I broke my cherry and caught a Swordfish Wednesday night. About 80 pounds and a 45 minute fight on 50# standup gear. My son Corey, who lives in Jupiter and runs a big sportfish boat called on Wednesday morning and said, "Dad, Tonight's the night." My friend Joe from Canada and I drove to West Palm and got on the boat at 4:30 PM. We left Lake Worth Inlet and rode 40 miles SE to 1300' of water just north of Ft. Lauderdale where we set 4 lines out baited with large squid, 24 oz of lead and a blinking light. One was set at 300', one at 200', one at 100' and one at 50'. Before we got all the lines set (about 10 minutes after setting the first one at 300, the 200' line was eaten and game on. 45 minutes later, the harpoon was thrown and the fish hit the deck. This was the only fish caught that night out of 4 bites so I guess we'll have to go back to get my friend Joe one http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y88/JackHexter/FloridaFishing011.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y88/JackHexter/FloridaFishing013.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y88/JackHexter/FloridaFishing032.jpg

Aw gee Jack-- and I was going to post about finally getting back on the water locally and decimating the crab and prawn populations--- never mind!!
But is night fishing the norm for those beasties?? Anyway-- I am envious!!

Congrats, Jack. Where does that boat operate out of?
Bry: Yes, swordfish are fished for at night, with large squid for bait, generally rigged with a light on the leader.
