I have a friend who's about to move from the Chesapeake area to the Seattle area. He's selling his 26 Pursuit center console and plans to buy something out there.
He plans to use it basically for salmon fishing.
He has a severe restriction in that he wants to be able to trailer it and store it in his garage. The garage is 24' with a 10x10 door. Figures the boat will be a 18' or 19'.
Any suggestions? I don't think price is a consideration.
Thanks
Charlie - might try going over to the MoWire and post the question to 'Dog Daze'. Mark's stationed up there and knows fishing in that area. Tell him JD suggested you ask him.
p.s. Mark just got back from his 2nd Iraq vacation and met up with my son-in-law (also a Mark). Both avid fishermen.

Charlie-- a lot depends on when and where he is going to use the boat. Is it a fishing platform?? If so, then he will want a boat with a maximum of deckspace. On the top end, the Grady-White 20ft WAC gives the best fishing room I have seen in a glass boat of that size. If he doesnt want the cuddy style, then have him check out the Hewescraft 180 Searunner. Absolutely necessary that he gets some weather protection such as a fold-down top with full side and rear curtains..... Aint called the "wet" coast for nothing. Another glass boat that has good deck space is the Campion 542. It a more of a family boat, if his Admiral wants to come along. Also-- since he is tight in the garage-- have him look for a swing-tongue trailer.
Zane!!!!! Wake up!!! Put yer .25 in!!!!!

Thanks guys.
He was thinking about a one of these but was open for suggestions. C-Dory or Arima 19' hardtop. Someone also suggested an Osprey.
If he wants a hardtop, it would seem a tight squeeze getting it in the garage.

I didn't realize the MoWire still exists. Heard Mo headed back to Winchester, VA.
Since I sold my place on Hatteras 3 years ago, I haven't been frequenting the surf boards.

I have a suggestion, Charlie. You can buy his 26-foot Pursuit! Those are really nice boats.:)
By the way, I'm fishing with Jim Brincefield on Sunday. You're still invited...let me know if you'd like to attend.

Carlie-- as far as the C-dory and Arima, the Arima seemed to be a pretty nice boat-- dont know anything, however about the C-dory.
However, in discussions with the former Port Townsend Harbor Master--aka Zane. he tells me that he has reports that the Arima is not the best sea boat in its class. Apparently a very "wet" boat. Maybe Zane will provide more info for you. And as to the Osprey-- now that one I HAVE heard good reports about.
A very good friend of mine had an arima and all our mutaual friends still chide him about the wet and bumpy ride that that boat provided in a chop. I am now a born again aluminum boat fan. There are numerous production aluminum boats on the market in the Northwest in the 18'-20' range that are very seaworthy and good fishing platforms. Welded Aluminum, low upkeep, smaller four stroke engine needed ( with gas at $3.25 a gallon) and really easy to tow.http://www.clemensmarina.com/alumaweld.php This link is just a tip of the boat iceberg.:D

Thanks for the invite Eddie, but I'll pass. Jim is not one of my favorite people. And it's a long ride!
Have you been hunting?

So I pass this information on to my friend and he says he won't be buying a boat for another year. That way he can learn what fishing, boating and living is like out there. He's from PA and has lived in the DC area for the last 27 years. It will be a big change for him.
But my daughter moved to Seattle about 5 years ago and loves it. If I wasn't so tied to the east coast and with another daughter in NC, I'd head that way too. In fact, I told my wife if something happens to her, I'll be moving west.
Thanks for all the replies.

Now just make sure ,Mr FishingFool ,that you point any CHEEP al-u-min-ium used boats my way, If I had the coin to buy a metal-- rather than a glass boat, I would be ALL OVER IT!!!!
But one thing I have learned in my search in the US of A for a suitable boat-- is that there are an awfully lot of ill boat owners trying to dump thier rides!!!!! So far its--- must sell because off "ill health", "wife has cancer" , "broken leg", "money needed for medical reasons", and a bunch more---- what ever happened to the getting rid of a boat ..."Because its breaking my wallet,.." its falling apart and I dont want to be bothered fixing it" Or..." my wife is getting half of everything, so it has to go!!!" ????
And the search continues.........

I've killed about a half-dozen deer so far this year. I shot a young doe yesterday at sunset, and unfortunately lost her in a huge briar patch. :( But I have piles of venison. Let me know if you get hungry for some.

I have sold lots of boats for medical reasons, I was sick of them! I forgot what size (20'??) were you looking for? Buy tin and it should be the last one that you will ever need:D

Yes-- 20-21ft. But there dont seem to be more than a handful of tin boats available out there-- hence the leaning towards glass.
I would prefer a tinny-- but I am used to not getting my own way as I am married...:o
