Went out in my buddys boat sat 12\9 at the chesapeake bay bridge tunnel
armed for striper and tog action. Hit the 3rd ilnd; [got reports on rockfish
action their] the birds were working about 2 miles east with about two
thousand boats working them, i told mark that we wern't getting into that
mess if the fish were a 100 lbs, forget it. So we worked the bridge for a hour
and had one on and lost it, so we anchored up and began to bottom fish for
togs. It didn't take long before we were batteling, most were throw-backs
but ended up with 7 keepers. Then some fellows come along and ask how we
were doing? Said "caught a few" so they anchored rite next too us. Now i
don't mind that at all but they, for some reason would not shut their motor
OFF and the bite shut down completly, i, my buddy, those guys couldn't give
a bait away to save our lives. I don't understand, what are people feered of,
their mtr not starting up? Didn't it start at the dock? Do the they like to
waste fuel and scare fish away? So we fire up, pulled anchor headed to the
yancey wreck and nail a few more togs in the piece and quiet.
I had a guy anchor along side me one time on a small piece of structure,
he was worried he was too close to me and ask me if it was all rite to be
that close. I said "just leave me enough room to get my rod down and he be fine" He shut off the mtr and we all caught that day. :D

Good report. I share your opinion about fishing in a mass of other boats, I'd rather catch less than fish in a big crowd.

Actually you haven't seen me there when it really busy. My cut off is 25 boats and then I move outside and quit trying to do the kelp line. The funny thing is I do just as good outside.

Here is a picture from Alaska this last summer.Find a popular fishing hole and you will find the fishermen.

As much as I enjoy fishing, that just does not look like fun. Small crowded boats fishing in a crowd in what looks like near freezing conditions. I guess I am spoiled here in Sofla, being able to fish in December with temps in the 80's.

Speck--imagine that boat density, spread over several square miles, with an average boat size of 35 feet. That's what it's like on the Chesapeake, on a weekend, when the stripers are running. :<(

I have to agree with you Greg and Eddie about to many fishermen at one place at the same time.I have had the luxury of fishing in South Texas since the sixtys with little to no people around for most of my life. Now days thing have changed. There are ALOT more fishermen, and the the use of the GPS has made inexperenced fishermen, good fishermen, that seem to want to over harvest to show off....OK I will get off my rant. The one thing I did like about the Kenia River was you were only able to have a 30 horsepower motor on your boat.We still caught some nice fish

I fished the Kenai a few years ago. Couldn't believe the closeness of the boats.

Of course, the wade fishing on the Russian was just as bad and reminded me of fishing The Point at Hatteras.

Here's the only thing I caught while boat fishing the Kenai. (At least my wife got a silver salmon although we were fishing for kings.)
