View Full Version : I got my ofishial redneck license
I bought my first real tractor to fill in a pond and put in a driveway to the barn. It's a 2001 60 HP model with 100 hours on it. I think I got a pretty good deal on it at $9500. The only thing I found wrong with it is that the front tires have dry rotted a little, but they still work fine. Now if I could just get it to quit raining so I can get some work done. The Flatline is going to be repowered just as soon as I can get it into my barn and start work on it. I was looking at new boats, but the price these days is retarded on them. I figure I can hang a new 300 HP Suzuki off mine for about 30K, which is less than half of what a new boat runs. I just hate the thought of losing 20K the first time I put a new one in the water and besides, the Flatline has been in the family since it was new.
Just a thought Mont. I happened to see that Yammie has a 350hp 4 stroke out now starting at $26k. Just another repower option.
Nice tractor. I could have used that when BJ decided to transform an acre of cow pasture into something resembling Ida Cason Callaway Gardens :)
the boat is only rated for 300 HP, even though it has twin 170's on it now. That 300 Suzuki has out has been out long enough to have the bugs out of it. I am going to put a 50 HP kicker on it and call it good. That's all assuming I don't find any problems with the hull. It's wood cored and 25 years old. If it's rotted, I am going to be looking hard at a either a 28 panga or a world cat.
Speaking of rednecks,
The Pentagon announced TODAY the formation of a new 500-man elite fighting unit called the United States Redneck Special Forces (USRSF)
These boys will be dropped off in Iraq and have been given only the following facts about terrorists :
1. The season opened today.
2. There is no limit.
3. They taste just like chicken.
4. They don't like beer, pickups, country music or Jesus.
5. They are directly responsible for the death of Dale Earnhardt.
The Pentagon expects the problem in Iraq to be over by Friday.
Nice Tractor Mont.

Geez Zane.... That means that the trailer park that I keep mine at will be empty...Well...Maybe not .I for got about the snowbirds.Snowbirds are some of the best sheephead fishermen around.
I agree Mont nice looking tractor .When I was young I worked for a guy who had a ford. That baby had some horsepower. He then traded for Kubota.Great tractor and it was very reliable, but it just did not have the power the ford did.Enjoy

25 to $30,000 to power a boat. It was only a couple of years ago I paid $400 for a new 50hp Johnson. It cost $300 for a new 30hp Scott Atwater. Well maybe a little futher back then that.,,,, Dan ;) :D

Scott Atwater, yeah I remember, I saw one in a museum once:D :D The 225 hp 4-stroke honda was around $18,000, In the old days Dan, we could have bought four cars for that kind of money:mad:

I'm younger than either Dan or Zane, yet my first new car was $2750. My wife's last two cost more than we originally spent for our house & 5 acres of land.

Monty have someone check out the transom real good. The stringers too. A good fibreglass guy would get $2500 and way up to replace the transom. Add to that a transom bracket for an OB and you are talking lots of bucks. A Panga? I know they build some real nice ones in Mazatlan, Mexico however, they are all usually narrower beam and no real Vees. Great in the bay around Puerto Vallarta, but nothing I would want in any kind of seas over 3 feet. They use them in Mexico because of the economy. I have a friend with one 28' and he pushes it with a new Merc 75. Just my opinion. You might want to find out if you can fit in a couple of Mercruiser V/6s that Mercruiser sells remaned.
Howard, I have to strip the 470's out and pull the outdrives off before I can do anything. Even if I get rid of the whole thing, it's got to be stripped out. I am sure I can get a few bucks for the old engines and outdrives. The pangas I have been looking at are from www.pangamarine.com built in Florida. I visited their factory when I was down last week.
Prices are a funny thing, guys. In 1979, I paid $6800 for a little red express truck. Right now, there's one on ebay with 500 original miles on it, with one owner in perfect shape that's at 40K and going up.
