With a small shove from Zane and a lot of good advice from Howard about Mercurys etc., my fishing partner and I headed to a burb of Seattle to view aluminum runabout fishing platforms. After getting the scoop from one dealer for the make and model I was interested in, we decided to do some comparison shopping at the manufacturers outlet shop in Tigard, Oregon. Drove down just in time to hit the afternoon comute in Portlands!!!! Wow-- for this north country boy, it was totally intimidation. Those folks drive like nutbars!!! What saved our bacon was an inexpensive L/G personal auto GPS. Without that I woould still be trying to get out of Portland!!
Anyway-- we hit the dealer just before closing time at dark. Got a quick look at the boats, got a quote and said -- "see ya in the morning"
That worked to our benefit as when we studied the quote we found we had been quoted $777 for surge brakes on the trailer, when the brouchure had them as standard.
Anyway-- I ended up buying a 2008 20ft Alumaweld Intruder ( similar to the one in the pic but without the fancy paint). It is being custom built since I wanted a few upgrades to things like the transom splashwell, batteries and the canopy set up etc.
It is a beamy boat for its length, but the 18 degree deadrise at the stern will make for a pretty smooth ride. Since its aluminum , it didnt require a lot of power, so I got them to put on a 2008 Mercury 115 fourstroke.
The boat will be ready for pickup in about two months . I already have its life planned for the summer..:D

Fine looking vessel, my friend. Given a choice of beam on a boat, I'll take wide every time. Much more stable while drifting, plus there's more room to fish.
You might consider naming her the Green Grouper, but folks up your way might not get it. Maybe Carole's Vacation? Actually, I'm hard pressed to come up with anything betterer than Batmobile.

I am delighted for you Bryan. Sounds like just the boat for you and the places you fish. You will find yourself looking at your tach. all the time to make sure it is running. Those 4 strokes are that quiet. How about the name
Juanny Man or Batbreath
In any event good luck with it. I am sure it will give you years of joy. :) :)

I may just have to stop by and get a ride on it. I'm planning on being in Parksville in early June after returning from an Alaskan cruise. That's where Joe purchased a new home.

you are so sharp-eyed and at your young age... woo woo..I saw that one last month.. I subscribe to Boating..
don't recognize anyone on the Marine-Charlie boat as most of the old-timers like moi have pulled the plug and are outta there...I'm out 17 1/2 years ..not too many old doods left...I think the SCPD is down to about 2600 personnel these days from a high of around 2900 back then

He's tired of cold winters in Alberta. Don't know if he's gonna fish around Parkesville or go back to Tahsis next year. I think he's getting his fill of Sam at the Maquinna.
So far , RumRunner has the lead!!!:D
RumRunner is too common a name. Every dock has one. I like "Bat Breath"

I tend to agree with you Jack except if anyone is intitled to the name rumrunner it would be Bat Breath:D :D

ITS MINE!!! ITS MINE!!! the name that is-- maybe-- havent decided yet ;)
Here is a closer look at the boat-- only difference in the layout is a higher transon well and no storage boxes in the stern to get in the way. Its going to be a long couple of months until I get delivery. http://stevensmarine.com/AWB20intob.php
