Just read an interesting article in Boat/US that DHS is reviving and enhancing (e) LORAN and it will be around indefinitely. A new generation of integrated GPS/eLORAN receivers is being marketed with the features and functionality of both.

Now we have a reliable bckup to GPS......

Is eLoran compatible with old Loran C receivers? I have my King 8002 and still remember how to use it, I think...

Duff - as best I can determine from what information is available, eLORAN is compatible with older LORAN-C receivers but cannot take advantage of the improved accuracy.

It seems that eLORAN has an added data channel that is needed for the improved accuracy so an older unit would still have the accuracy limitations of LORAN-C but the repeatability feature.
