View Full Version : Opinions?
On Mako? On Mercury outboards? Seems to be a number of 2006 and 2007 inshore and offshore CC models sitting at dealers. But I'm not familiar with either.
Appreciate any opinions.........
I hear good things about Optimax by Merc. But I do like being able to brag about my Big Johnson :D
Mako has always been good. Hopefully they still put a little wood in their boats 'cause I'm a little dissappointed with the all-composite stuff - is a little bouncy.

Mercury motors have always been good for me. My current boat has a Yamaha because that's what the original owner bought. I'm real pleased with it, also. It is a 115HP 4 stroke Yammy.
Mako makes good boats, but they don't seem to have enough transom deadrise. At least, in the models that I was searching.
As with any boat purchase, test drive, test drive, test drive! :D

Dont know about the Mako-- but I have used Mercs since the days they were Kiehoeffer. Thanks gawd we no longer have to change magnetos!!:D
But in the overall--- I have had good service from Mercury engines. And that includes what is considered "commercial" applications ( ie gubermint). Put on MANY hours and learned the lesson of regular maintenace and servicing. ( an for 2 stroke engines-- using premium oil)
I now have a 115 4 stroke that was $1500 cheaper than a Yammie--- gotta love that.
Well I probably made a b....i....g mistake going to a dealer today at lunch time and crawled all over a model 212 with a 225 Optimax and it was loaded. T-top, spots fore and aft, hydraulic steering, trim tabs, wash down, live well, dual batteries, console potty and stowage, Lowrance all-in-one system, and on and on. Looked at a 241 inshore but there was no place on the console for electronics and no potty in the console (the boss is already having a problem with another open boat :D so I gotta have an enclosed head).
Got back and told the manager I found 2 new ones similarly equipped for $5,000 less than what he was asking. So if he drops $5k I'll probably talk to the bank. All I would need to add is that get-home-kicker.
Would love to be able to get fish slime on deck again ;)

Just ask yourself this--- "How many lives will I live?" If the answer is "ONE" -- then buy it!!!;)
Men get excited when their friends are getting ready to buy a new fishin boat sorta like how women get excited when their girliefriends are getting ready to have babies! Should we throw you a boat shower? :D
Good luck on your purchase and post up some fish slime pictures!
He finally called a while ago and doesn't want to negotiate now; possibly this fall. Soooooo, he's got my name and number.
Butttttttt, I'm still shopping
