ESCAMBIA COUNTY -- After receiving reports that a 20-foot pontoon boat was possibly sinking at the Three Mile Bridge, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers took a boat out to investigate.

They found four adults fishing with water washing over the pontoons, according to FWC's weekly report.

When they questioned the operator about the boat's condition, the individual replied, "The boat was dragging a bit on the way out."

Officers escorted the boat back to shore. There, it was discovered that the owner had drilled holes below the waterline to drain water from the pontoons. The screws he used to plug the hole were apparently not water-tight, the report said.

They get a lot of Canucks that come to Florida and rent boats. We all know that they all have a screw loose.

I am what I am. If I was not a nasty, cynical old Man, I might be a trusting dummy that moves to Calabash NC or worse, a guy that says eh! all the time. :D :D

Batbreath, of course we want more of your writings. There are so few good fiction writers around anymore.

I truly hope you are enjoying every minute of the trip. I am sure that getting together with Stu will be a hoot.

BTW, when Stu lifts a glass and says "God save the Queen" He is probably not referring to HRH Margaret. We, your dearest friends, in the name of international honesty and friendship, had to tell Stu the truth about you.

Keep on keeping Mate.:D

Howard, I have not laughed at a computer screen like that since Patrick was posting here. It's a darn good thing we are your friends. None of us would want you to be an enemy. Funny stuff, my friend, funny stuff.

Bat Breath, enjoy the heck out of yourself over there, and give that crazy captain all our best.

Right you are there, Bryan. Difficult for us Colonials to keep up with the Royals. BTW I have one of those notebooks too, but did get the DVD/CD burner and my Zip drive will plug in also, to one of the 3 USB ports. Has 2 slots, one for SD and another that will do SD,xD and MMC. It is pretty cool.

Continue having a great time.:) :)

Well it's about time we heard from those South of us. Haven't heard from you in a long time. The last fish the Canuck was bragging about was a big piece of plywood he pried off the bottom. Hope all is well

Nice to see the Bat breath Man with a fish. Truly hope they are having a good time. Got to hand it to Bryan and Carolle, they are not afraid of venturing away from Courtenay. I hope NZ will allow them back. Not like Mexico, where I had to pay a large mordida to get the Government of Mexico to allow Bryan in a second time. All charges have been dropped. The DNA on the Turtle Hatchlings proved negative.:D :D :D

We managed to get out for a couple of days... the weather was (as you can see) perfect, really really nice stuff. The great thing about autumn weather here is that it is warm enough during the day but the huge Burn factor of high summer is eased off, so you don;t have to smear sunblock every 37 seconds. Makes for a more pleasant days boating I reckon.
The fish were not overly co-operative, we found a few kingis, but only babies, on the 1st day, so headed out wider to 120m to look for bottom fish. Once there, we got into some of our pesky barracoutta, (snake mackerel or snoek, depending on where you're from in the world), but before we got the 1st of these totthy mongrels to the boat, the got abbreviated!
That was cool... we had that little rat mako feeding on them as they came in.Mine got munted straight away, then it switched its attention to Bryans 'coutta, and spent the next 10-15minutes whacking lumps off that. really cool to see a mako doing its thing, I tell ya.
Bottom fishing continued after the couta finally vanished, I got a small hapuku (target species), and then we just picked up a couple of snapper and a tarakihi, and some smallish red snapper (which on reflection I should have kept for the smoker I guess), before we got mugged by the little rat mako again. This time it tied itself up in Bryans trace, so we got to play with the shark "hands on". It was cool, but Bryan refused to hug it and give ita kiss for the camera, what a sissy! :-)
Next day was gonna be a "short" day... trouble was, it was just so beautiful out there that it turned into a moderately normal type day, about 6 hours or so on the water. That day we concentrated on doing the kingfish thing a little more, and to my considerable relief, I finally found some slightly more decent fish on one of the deeper reefs, Cobra reef (which the day before had been totally barren, go figure).
So at least Bryan got one keepable kingfish by jigging, as he will tell you, it is an athletic form of fishing. The fish was legal by a couple of centimetres, but not what I had really wanted for him to get... about 15lbs, not 30+ that would have REALLY shown him a good time! As it was, even this smallish fish gave a good account of itself.
From then it was pretty much just a tiki-tour looking for something else tocatch, never did find anything else, but hey, it was just a great day from cruising in the boat as far as I was concerned, it had been a couple of onths since my last chance, so I was making the most of it!
Bryan and Carolle seem to have enjoyed there time here, to the extent that Carolle is needling Bryan to buy an apartment at whitianga so they can split their time , 6 months here, 6mnths in BC..... but somehow I do not htink that is a goer! :-) lol .... apparently there are some dogs and some grandies at home that would preclude such a course of action! :-)
It was neat having them here anyhow.... now, who is next?
cheers all,
Stu.

Well-- back to normalcy for the time being. It was quite a trip and both Carolle and I fell in love with New Zealand. The hospitality shown us by Stu and other Kiwis really made the trip too.

Hey Capt -- I know you are a busy man and have obligations to the students you are sheparding-- but you really are due for a trip to the northern hemisphere.... time to do some long range planning ???????

And again-- thanks for a great time.
