View Full Version : Finally
After listening to all you southern fellas, and my northern buddy Bat Breath, spend counless hours talking of fishing, it's my turn. The gps is repaired, engines serviced and decks and bottom repainted. We tow the boat up on Saturday and spend a week looking for fish and inbibing in adult beverages.
Life is good, very very good   It's been a long and ugly winter.
This southern fella is envious! We may have a longer fishing season but we fall well short on the scenery compared to what you have up there. And I think I'd probably trade you our restricted grouper  fishery for your salmon. You can keep more than one right?
That's a nice setup you have!
Duff, those canadians are generous people, last year the daily limit per person:2 silver(coho) salmon, 2 chinook (king)(spring) salmon, 2 halibut, 3 ling cod, and five assorted bottom fish. Way more than I would ever keep. I am a firm believer in eat what you keep and that would be 6 months supplly for a days limit.
Considering how big those species get, that IS a deal! And I agree...

Generous-- yes. But what Zane forgets to tell you is that a whole BUNCH of the chinook and some coho that we catch are from the lower 48!!! But its only fair since Alaska hammers BOTH countries salmon stocks.
Zane-- a person has to appreciate the recent weather the coast has been having-- but winter aint THAT far away. Just got back from the Annual Convention of the BC Wildlife Federation in a small town called Fernie on the western side of the Rockies. IT SNOWED off and on for three of the days we were there. It was sure nice to see that glassy water on the Strait of Georgia and sunshine when we were flying into Comox today. :)
Prawning comes next-- its been FANTASTIC with 200 piece limits in a 2 hr set.

Hey ol' buddy-- just remember the daily limit for butts is now ONE !! (Two in possession) :p
That's a nice boat, Zane. Everytime I see a picture of it, I would love to have the time to come up that way and let y'all show a Texan how to fish.
Monty, You gives us a little lead time and I am sure that between Bryan and I that we can show you some pretty good fishing :D :D
I had a great trip. It's a 11 hour trip to tow the boat up from home. Two hours of that are on a ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria Canada and then up the hiway to Gold river on pavement. The last 40 miles to Tahsis is via an improved gravel logging road. We fished for three days and spent one day or so working on the house and cleaning up the boat. The crew consisted of three retired firefighter/paramedics and a retired NFL football player. I like having the NFL'er around as he makes me look like a lightweight'
The fishing was only soso as we were unable to find any halibut or salmon but we did find a wealth of bottom fish and 14 ling cod to #24. The true joy was hitting the weather perfectly. Everyday was shirtsleeves and sunburn and beer with flat calm waters out fifteen miles. It isn't often up there that you can run at 30+ mph offshore. All in all a really great trip.:D
Bryan, The new limit didn't apply to us, I would be happy with one butt a day. The problem arose that we couldn't find them as they were not yet in their accostom places :( :( . We didn't get the prawn gear out and it wasn't till the last day up there that they told us that the prawning had be fantastic. It was still a great trip.

Hey Zane, that former NFL player, was that Chuck Allen? If so tell him hello for me. Been a few years since he joined us for the Pool party at the Velas in PV. Very nice guy.
Howard that would be him. You're right about the nice guy part. I will pass on the greeting.:D
