View Full Version : Hey Mont
Guess what BJ bought for me today :D
We bought the Mako 22'er with the 250TXK Suzuki. I didn't have them put electronics on it as I want to shop around for what I want rather than what they have. Else, she's fully rigged and ready.

Well-- I can tell what NOT to buy.... and that is the Lowrance 525cDF sounder/gps combo.
Its presently in Ontario getting the externeal antenna and extension cord to the antenna replaced for a second time in a year.
If you Google "Lowrance GPS module not responding" you will find hundreds of unhappy Lowrance owners.
Hope this helps-- enjoy the new toy!

Thats what we have and I love it, It would look good on the new boat :D :D
I agree on the Lowrance unit - steer clear!! I've had nothing but problems with my external GPS antenna and waiting on a new one to arrive now. The dealer that sold and installed mine said they can hardly recommend Lowrance anymore because the customer service has degraded. Believe it or not, I've been hearing great things about Humminbird! Seems they are on the cutting edge of technology these days, and their service has ALWAYS been outstanding. Garmin makes a good unit but their customer service is so-so in my experience.
Good advice all. That's what they wanted to sell me. I looked at the same model Mako last spring and they had the Lowrance installed in the console. But I've got plenty of time to shop. When I think I found what I want I'll run it by.
Not planning to splash it before June and won't need the heavy duty stuff until this fall. Here on the lake I need only a compass.
You best give your wife a big old hug, Dan. Congrats on having a boat again (I think, lol). Look at Garmin's stuff. I got a GPS from them that works in both the boat and the truck. It's hands down the handiest thing I have even bought. I was in Mobile a while back and needed a brake light. Punched auto parts into the search and it drew me a map to Autozone. Yesterday, we were out on the bay with it, and I could have run the channel without ever looking out the windshield. When you get ready to run offshore, or on the bay, let me know and we can run together. June 1 is opening day for snaps.
Mont - she got a big hug and an ulcer at the same time ;)
Won't be fishing in June. I have a date with an orthopedic surgeon on Snap opening day (6/1) and expect to be grounded for a couple of weeks. I plan on getting down in late September or early October. The dealer is going to hold the boat in storage until the doc gives me the okay to start doing things again. Told them I'd probably pick it up in Dallas the middle of June.
If things work out as I expect, the dock and lift will go in in August. The seawall is progressing very slow due to weather. We got 6 inches of rain yesterday.
