Well- I just got back from three days with Zane , Don and Tommy at beautiful Tahsis! The adult beverages were flowing freely after the days on the water, Zanes fish and chips made from fresh rockfish and halibut were awesome, as usual , and the weather was great other than a bit of morning fog.. and the fishing!!........... well what can I say? :D Zane set a new record that was quickly posted on the marina bragging board when we finally got in!

Whats this?? A double header for Zane and Tommy???

Well I feel badly about stealing any mans thunder ( except from Howard) so I will leave it to my fishing fool buddy to give you guys the nitty gritty!!!

This is not the record that my good friend BB is refering to. I think he is refering to the five and a half hours running on the 8hp kicker at full throttle to return to the dock at Tahsis:mad:

More later

Any trip you don't have to swim home, is a good one. I have made two trips recently on one engine myself. It beats being on the end of a rope.

Well the worst thing was that we had no food on the boat, other than trailmix :( And not even a hint of rum!! Things were getting desparate after about three hrs!! What kept going through my mind was that castaway movie where three guys get stranded and all they find later is one very healthy person and a bunch of bones!

Batbreath on a boat for more than three hours without any rum.Geez.. What a story this one is going to be :D Looks like there was some nice fish caught.

Soooo, The reel story is that the first three days at Tahsis went reel well. Bright sunny days, mostly calm seas(except for day 1). We averaged two big salmon a day with the others in the teens and were catching butts and bottom fish easily. Roy left Tuesday night and Don and I took Wednesday off with a ride up to a lookout at about 2500’ up the mountain. The trouble started Wednesday night when Bad Luck BB and Tommy arrived and began on the demon rum. Out early to the hiway (an area about six miles offshore) BB was having trouble hooking fish with his muli-colored (designed to lure fisherman) spoons not being able to entice any fish. The picture he posted of Tom and I reeling in unison was the product of us fishing the downrigger down 190’ feet with two lines stacked, the tide and wind resulted in the downrigger line touching the prop and losing
190’ of line and a 15’ lead ball. We were just trying to reel it up  NO luck.
We then ran in to a reef near shore and about 28 miles from home dock and after a couple hours of fishing with Bryan pulling in a nice 20# Ling Cod the Honda 225 quit and could not be restarted The result was a 28 mile trip on the 8 hp kicker at between 5.5 & 6.3 mph. We got the 225 started the next day and went out to test it and it ran for about fifteen minutes and reely died. It is now on it’s way to the states and a rebuild or replacement. With the exception of the motor problems we did have a great time and it was nice to see Bryan again as it has been a while. One of the highlights of the trip was on Saturday night when we were outside with the mechanic working on the boat at about 10 pm was hearing the howls of the wolves in the nearby mountains. That is the only time in my life except for Yellowstone Park that I have heard that sound.

Sorry to hear about the engine, but it's a boat.

Got some nice fish too.

The lookout up there is spectacular. I especially like the free car wash :p half way up (or down - depending on when you stop)
For anyone who ever goes to Tahsis, don't miss this spot.

On the other hand, who is running the tackle store this year, I heard Sam was not going to let Randy do it this year.

Randy is the man. Seems like he and sam are doing fine. Joe and Sam seemed to be doing better this year too! Life in a small town:rolleyes:

Zane, now that you have told the real tale of the last trip, I will let you know a deep dark secret (actually 2). Batbreath is the same as having a Banana aboard. Secondly after much research, I have discovered that Bryan means Albatross in Swahili.

Aw jeeze-- now we are telling tales out of school!!! I too, have learned the meaning of a name, but until now I have been keeping it to myself..

This is true ..... "Howard" in spanish means "The plus-sized gringo who farts in the pool, scares little children, and kicks old grannies!"

Sorry, old buddy, but the truth:rolleyes:   will out!!!

wow, that's some pretty country view, right there! Stacy has been in the mountains of Colorado for the last 2 weeks and sending me pics that look almost like yours. I don't think she's coming home, at least not anytime soon. I need to see that view one more time. The biggest hill around here is the Freeway Overpass.

Batbreath, this is getting ugly...Do not force me to post the "PICTURE"

I am an ugly Gringo, I do scare little children and I do beat up Grannies. I do not fart in the pool. The bubbles are the release of ballast. The gloves are off.. :D :D

Zane, sorry for hijacking the thread. The pictures are great. Beautiful country.

Jack, there is no car wash going on right now. The loggers were up moving their waterlines, trying to find a large enough trickle to get water :D :D There was also a small fire going over by Gold River, made me wonder if the road would end up being closed as it was a little smoky coming off the pass going out.

They are sure enough having their hands full with fires in the Okanagan area. Have some friends in Kewlona and they have sent me some pictures. Just awful. Hope you do not find that in your area.
