Bob Bergen passed away today. I spent the afternoon with his daughter & three of his grandkids. He was a good man, and will be missed by many.

I'll be taking his daughter & two of his grandkids out on the Mad Son three weeks from today.

Bob was that once in a lifetime friend you happen upon....It happened right here more than just a few years ago. We became more than friends. Gail and I were at his bedside as he passed. He was as smooth in letting go as he was in the life he so cherished and lived to it's fullest. I'm glad his grandkids and daughter spent thier tough times with you Greg. I'm sure they feel the same void that can't be filled. He taught me flyfishing and got pissed and proud when I surpassed my mentor. I can't say enough..... He'll be greatly missed.
While settling his affairs he asked for a fish fry on "the island" in his honor....and that we will honor! As Floradopolopomus was, he specified a few particlulars. 1.) everybody have a good time on his behalf. 2.) no crying or funeral type service but a fishing rod and drink in hand.3.) his ashes be scattered on an out going tide .
We plan this on July 24th from 10am_2pm on IR42 due east of Round Island Ramp. I'll list a link in a couple days with details. We have a few boats set up with shuttle service as the teen anglers, spoil island folks, past students, associates, friends, family, and so many people that knew him as a good man and friend will be there.
Any memorials are to be sent to National Teen Anglers or Treasure Coast Hospice. Boy he choose them right!

If anyone has pics of Bob please forward a copy of them to bfrega@bellsouth.net. Hopefully someone caught him walking on water at the Dockside. We'll have a digital frame set up for the day.
May God Bless him and keep him, May the lord make his face shine upon him, May the lord show him the best redfish holes and secret spots so he can be our guide when we see him again. And may the lord give him peace~

very saddened to hear about the passing of Florida Bob....regrets to his family.... we all have some fond memories and stories of him especially at the gatherings in Ft Pierce

in keeping with his earning the very familiar nickname 'Flopadopolous'... I'll just say... 'Requiescat in pace'

p.s..... to F-B...if you're dialed in to the GG Board from up there.... I hope my 4 years of Latin I learned in 'Catlick' High School in Brooklyn is correct :)

Bob was a great friend to all who knew him. I'll miss him, but I'll never forget him. Bob, I pray that they give you the fastest, most shallow running flats boat in Heaven. I remember riding in his boat at 35 or 40 MPH in about 2 inches of water! However, we never ran aground. Bob was the best. Rest in Peace, Buddy! My thoughts and prayers are with his family. God bless them and comfort them.

Fl. Bob was a very interesting guy I will miss our sessions talking about fishing, nature and his past. Fishing with him was always a blast, especially when I caught that big trout at the first reunion to win first place. Good by Fl. Bob you will be missed.

Bill, I can't get released by my doc in time to make a flight over there. Take pics for the rest of us and post them up when it's all over.

Mont,
I definately will do.
It's surprising to me how many people it looks like are coming....heck, it seems they're coming out of the woodwork. We were originally gonna go out early and set up shade and such for about twenty, but 3-5 times that potentially has us camping 2 nights in the middle of July. Hopefully the weather gods cooperate....maybe Bob will put in a word up there about the weather~

Due to the tropical wave coming our way and the wind/rain advisories we have rescheduled the fish fry in Bob Bergen's memory to Saturday August 21st 10am-2pm. I can still use more pics of Bob if anyone has some. Please help us forward this message to anyone who might be attending.
Thanks

Bill, is the pick up ramp north of Dockside or south? It's been a while since I have been over there and my memory ain't what it used to be.

Mont,
Quite a way north of Dockside. The ramp is on N. Hutchinson Island. You would go over the north causeway and take a left when you hit the ocean on A1A. It's about 6 miles north from there at the Indian River / St. Lucie County Line on the left. (Dockside is on the south side of the inlet)
We'll camp the night before and after, just for the logistics of getting things set-up and cleaned up. We're bringing a small generator for fans in our tents and fogging oil by the gallon. I bought a 40'X60' tarp that should prove a challenge to erect.
Hope to see you there!

Bill, I had a followup with my cardio guy this morning and it appears he is going to schedule my cardioversion sometime right around when Bob's tribute is going to happen. I had hoped to have it out of the way by then, but my blood is too thin right now, so it's going to happen in 2-3 weeks. I wish I could be there, but I know the perfessor would understand.
