View Full Version : darn fine morning on the bay
It's finally gotten hot enough down here that I drug out the night fishing gear last night. I took a run out to Redfish Reef this morning just to see how things looked, and the water is green again. You Florida guys don't laugh, green water is good water for the bay around here. At any rate, I got the par 64 setup in the rod holder where it goes, and a cord run to it. The girls have never been at night and that light will have tons of activity behind it after dark. I will post up some pics tomorrow. I hope everyone is having a great weekend. Other than the heat, it's beautiful here and I have A/C ;)

Some of my best fishing trips with my girls took place during the fall in the landcut at night. Coyotes howling, BBQ pit smoking, and tons of trout. I hope you and your girls have a great time. Life is good! Rusty

Gotta love the family fishing!! I have had my two young grandaughters here for a week. The weather has been fantastic... low 80s during the afternoon.
I got them out fishing a couple of days ago ( well actually a boat tour day-- seal and sea lion watching, shore lunch at Grampas secret spot that only a couple of hundred others know about) and then some fishing. The 6 yr old got a nice rockfish, and them the little one (3) got a trophy sea cucumber, and then a greenling. The greenling, which we refer to as lingcod candy, was used live baiting. Result was a 15lb lingcod into the boat and hi-five all around! Next we picked up the prawn traps that were set earlier in the morning-- 75 biggies!
The older I get-- the more fun I have getting family into fish.. I suspect that the same applies to a lot of others on this board...
I should also mention that the salmon fishing locally has been pretty good too...... Rusty has it right!!!
We had a good time and quite a few laughs. It's a little different trying to cast when it's pitch black, but we all got the hang of it. Faith had a good time with the dip net, catching all the stuff that swam into the light. We made it back home in time to get up and have an early breakfast this morning. Here's a couple of pics...
That's about all you can do Mont - night or early AM. We're in day um'teenth of 105. And the electric bill will show it.
I used to love going out at night and anchoring or drifting a few spots I favored. Nice and tranquil, fish or not. Glad the gals enjoyed it.

Cough-- cough!!!:( Not so nice on the water up here today. First we got skunked, and then the smoky pall from the massive forest fires we are experiencing just sticks in the back of the throat. Visability much reduced too.
Need a good storm to bring us some rain to cool things down-- not lightning. Its been 32 days with no rain.
Its been years since I fished at night-- but its one way to beat the heat for sure.

uh oh... you asked for it...
I knew that was coming... lol
...but I'd still rather have flood than drought, especially one with fires.
Say, aren't we about due for a hurricane or two?

Bite your tongue, Duff! We live in the plywood state, remember? Don't need no stinkin' hurricanes. ~~Greg~~
